Discover Afiartis
Michaliou Kipos
One of the most unique and extraordinary beaches in Karpathos, Michaliou Kipos lies just a few steps from our front porch. Its emblematic rock stands firm as a prehistoric monument of nature on the left side, while the caves of clay and sea shells shaped by the wind and water provide a natural shelter from the strong sun for bathers and Mediterranean monk seals alike. As for the waters, you will need to try them yourselves!
Diakoftis
A very famous beach on the eastern side of Afiartis, Diakoftis is just a 5-minute drive away from our villas. With its soft white sands and its crystal clear waters, and with a distinct, narrow line of land stretching like an ancient vessel inside the sea, Diakoftis is one of the most decorated beaches in the island for a good reason. The bay is also well organized with umbrellas and a beach bar, so don't worry if you forget to bring your bottle of water.
Surfers' paradise:
Makrys Gyalos, Vatha, Agrilaopotamos
Afiartis has always been a popular destinations for kite and wind surfers alike from all over the world. The strong summer winds make it the perfect spot for those who enjoy riding the waves, and thus many beaches have been equipped to fit their needs. If you are a beginner, you will want to visit Makrys Gyalos, or as the locals call it, Chicken Bay. Being a small and rather shallow lagoon it is ideal for those wishing to take their first steps in the world of wind surfing. If you are more experienced, you might find Vatha, or Devil's Bay, more suitable. Finally, if your sport of choice is kite surf rather than wind surf, you will definitely have to visit the bay of Agrilaopotamos, on the western side of Afiartis.
All these places are well organized with training stations, bars and restaurants and can be approached within 5-10 minutes by car.
Don't forget: all the above are just some suggestions. Afiartis is full of hidden gems, waiting for you to discover them. Either on the south where the incredible shoreline stretches off the grid with many lesser-known or completely unknown, small and bigger bays, or towards the north where many hiking trails start leading to the inner Karpathos, Afiartis will amaze you.
And of course, one can always roam further away, visit one of the many picturesque villages spread around everywhere on the island, enjoy the view from the highest mountain in the Dodecanese, Kali Limni, or just have a fun night out at the main port-town of Pigadia.
